Silicon production

REC is a leading global player in the production of high purity silicon materials, with 25 years of polysilicon manufacturing expertise. REC produces silicon materials at two US-based plants.

REC Silicon is the operating division for the silicon production and produces solar grade polysilicon, electronic grade polysilicon and silane gas at plants in Moses Lake, Washington and in Butte, Montana.

These products are raw materials for the international solar and electronic industries. For example, polysilicon and/or silane gas are used in technologies to create MP3 players, flat panel displays, laptops, hybrid electric vehicles, plus ubiquitous solar panels.

REC Silicon’s products help energy and technology providers shape the future via a comprehensive selection of solar and electronic grade polysilicon and silicon gases. Our trademarked Signature Silane™ gas (SiH4) and advanced operational techniques enable production of the highest purity silicon materials in the world. The Fluidized Bed Reactor (FBR) technology is REC's proprietary process producing granular solar grade polysilicon at significantly lower cost than the traditional Siemens process.

REC Silicon produced 19,050 MT of Siemens and granular polysilicon in 2011, and production target for 2012 is 21,500 MT, of which a large percentage is FBR granular material. The plants’ silane gas capacity totals more than 27,000 MT.

REC Silicon employ approximately 860 people.
