REC Alpha Pure and Alpha Pure-R Series panels receive PEP Certification

Munich, Germany May 24, 2023
REC Group, an international pioneering solar energy company, is pleased to announce that it has received a PEP ecopassport certification for its REC Alpha Pure and Alpha Pure-R series. The certification helps builders and construction companies in France to meet the requirements of the new RE2020 legislation, which is in effect since January 2022 and sets standards for the environmental performance of new buildings, including private homes.

New certification helps homebuilders to meet France’s RE2020 standards for reduced carbon footprint in new buildings.

The PEP ecopassport certificate provides a transparent and standardized way for builders and owners to compare the environmental performance of different products and make informed decisions about their building projects. The Certification is based on a third-party independent assessment considering raw materials, manufacturing processes, energy consumption and product performances. REC Alpha Pure and Alpha Pure-R solar modules successfully convinced the certification board with their lead-free design according to the RoSH-directive, their high-power density and a longevity that promises 92% nameplate power even after 25 years on the roof.

“We are excited to offer French builders and homeowners the certainty that their building projects are RE2020 compliant and sustainable," said Reinhard Lampe, Vice President Sales & Marketing, REC Solar EMEA. "The PEP certification is in line with our strategy to promote sustainability across the entire, long life cycle of our products. The latest innovation, Alpha Pure-R and our award-winning Alpha Pure Series, are a testament to this strategy. Their pioneering design makes them more sustainable and eco-friendly from manufacturing to recycling, and their extreme durability and high efficiency ensure that they will stay on roofs for a very long time, saving on resources while delivering consistently high yields.”

In effect since January 2022, the new mandatory regulation RE2020 aims to reduce the carbon impact of construction by introducing a greenhouse-gas emissions threshold for new residential buildings. This threshold is based on the building's entire lifecycle and requires builders and owners to reduce the environmental impact of their building projects by using sustainable materials and energy-efficient systems. By installing a PV system with REC Alpha Pure or Alpha Pure-R modules, homeowners can improve their new home’s energy efficiency by limiting the carbon impact in order to meet RE2020 requirements.

PEP and CERTISOLIS: REC Alpha Pure modules fully certified for the French market

The recently awarded PEP certificate complements the already existing CERTISOLIS certificates for the REC Alpha Pure module. The CERTISOLIS organization evaluates and certifies the carbon footprint of solar modules; the certificate is mandatory for all solar modules installed in France. The modules' carbon footprint, measured in kg CO2eq/kWp, is an important criterion for participating in French energy regulator CRE’s PPE2 tenders for ground-mounted PV systems as well as C&I installations between 100 and 500kWp.

With its carbon footprint REC Alpha Pure falls below the CRE threshold of 550 kg CO2eq/kWp. REC achieves this value by sourcing the silicon for its cells from Europe which allows the modules to have a much better carbon footprint thanks to the use of low carbon energy mix in the production. Furthermore, REC uses HJT cells in its REC Alpha Pure panel, which have the advantage of being processed at lower temperature and through less steps, saving energy.

REC’s entire product range of solar modules is designed with sustainability in mind, using high-quality materials and manufacturing processes that minimize their environmental impact. With the addition of the PEP certificate, REC is now better equipped to meet the evolving needs of the French construction market and help builders and homeowners to achieve their sustainability goals. REC will exhibit its product portfolio at Intersolar 2023 in Munich, Booth A2.460.
